HKS Pimps Out the Hyundai Genesis
Hyundai definitely has their finger on the pulse of the Young American car buying public. The Genesis Coupe is the RWD car with a turbocharged engine that drifters and JDM lovers have been crying for since the Silvia. Although this car comes from Korea, it’s still all good!
2008 SEMA HKS Genesis
Debuted at the 2008 SEMA show, the HKS Genesis rocked the tuning world with its full onslaught of performance parts and accessories. Hyundai Motors got together with Kenstyle USA and HKS to create a purpose built car that showcases that the sky is the limit with the Genesis Coupe. This car is not just all show but a ton of go has also been added.
HKS Engine Modifications
Starting with a stout 2.0 liter turbocharged engine, HKS shows us just what kind of bolt on mods can be done to this ride. Spent exhaust gasses exit out of a gorgeous tubular manifold and spin an HKS GT2835 Turbo. The air is then sucked in by a HKS Carbon fiber air boxed and compressed by the new turbo. The charged air is cooled by an HKS Intercooler, then slammed into the engine and set-off via Super Fire plugs. The Black limited-edition Super Sequential Blow-Off Valve relieves pressure between shifts while exhaust is channeled out an HKS Legamax stainless steel exhaust! Of course an HKS F-con engine management system makes sure the motor does not self-destruct!
Exterior Kenstyle Body Kit
Kenstyle did a number when they created functional aerodynamic body parts. The experience gained through HKS’s time attack cars has trickled down to the Genesis. The body kit consists of new bumpers, sideskirts, and a trick hood lip. The Genesis was finished off with a coat of PPG Candy Red Paint. The rims are super durable Volk Racing RE30 limited edition wheels wrapped in Yokohama Advan tires. The suspension duties come from HKS Hipermax Coilovers. All these plus some cool interior features stack up to a great all around modified Genesis Coupe.

Hyundai really picked up the ball and filled that gap left when Nissan dropped the 240SX. I never quite gave the Genesis a second look until I saw this beauty from the SEMA show.
Wow. This car looks amazing, I always thought hyundai’s were quite cheap cars until I saw this one.
Sweet one!!! cant believe its a Hyundai!
Hyundai made a good job with Genesis, it looks good and it has a decent performance. but it seems that tuners are not satisfied with that and continue to add more performance to it. We are all really glad about it.
HKS has got all those features which a good sport car should have. Taking from the look to the machinery, everything is just too perfect. Though I have a Hyundai family car, but, would like to have HKS too very soon.
Hi, I’m a Hyundai fan and have been driving Korean cars since 1995. Hyundai Accent was my first car and now, I have the Genesis Coupe. It’s a wonderful vehicle, not up to BMW levels just yet, but close, really close.
What I’m most impressed with is the fact that Hyundai has come a looong way and can now be compared to any Japanes car company. They strive to become a BMW or Lexus rival, but they ll need some more time. Cosnidering the proggress they have made since I drove the Accent, they will most definatelly succeed soon!
Best regards,
Hyundai fan
The car is amazing just as some of the other comments have mentioned, Its too bad American auto makers cant figure it out. What Americans want. Guess thats the way it goes though.
I like very much the engine modifications made by HKS. I hope this collaboration will be visible in the future in series cars made by Hyundai. The article is well documented and the video is great.
Nice – Hyundai’s shape does lend itself well to that sort of ultra-modified body look in a way that other brands don’t. They make it look organic, instead of being like a family sedan with a bolt-on bodykit. I have to wonder what the Genesis costs to insure and to have repaired, though!
