The Special Edition TRD Toyota Scion tC RS 5.0

Release Series 5.0Toyota has answered the prayers of tuners everywhere.  The TRD Tuned performance Scion tC RS 5.0 is a limited release car that made its first debut to the public earlier this year at the Chicago Auto Show.  This Scion has garnered alot of attention due to fact that almost every part offered by TRD for the Scion has made its way onto the car.

The first modification that almost every tuner makes to their car has to do with the exhaust or muffler.  The TRD cat-back exhaust is made of stainless steel and emits a wonderful deep-pitched sound. Not only does this system look good and sound great; but is also gives a small kick to the horsepower department.

trd scion tc rs rimsThe rolling stock on the Scion consists of 18 inch rims colored matte black with a red band in the mesh style.  trd scion tc springsToyota Proxies are the choice for tires.  Handling duties are addressed with a set of TRD Red lowering springs that drop the tC 1.5 inches while adding increasing the cornering ability. A rear sway bar adds stiffness to the car to aid in cornering.

The exterior sports some TRD badging but it is the interior that received the most love!  There are TRD logo floor mats in the front with color matched interior (black with red highlights). Finally a leather steering wheel with red-sticking finishes off the interior accessories.

I have a Crimson Scion TC. I had it about a week and have about 200 miles on it. I was at the Toyota dealer and was going to get a Yaris or Corolla. I really wanted a manual. You can find a manual Yaris. You can find a manual corolla but your never going to be able to resale it. The only manual they had was the Scion TC. By the time I put any options on a Corolla or Yaris you are in the TC price range. The car is only a week old so I am still in the love my car to death stage. I do have a few problems with it but I can live with them. First make mats standard. Fog lights are an accessory The name of the car is TC but there is no Traction Control. My last car an 01 Oldsmobile had TC. With the traction control you can easily burnout/chirp/ect the tires. The back windows/hatch are not tinted. This should be tinted. I am going to get them tinted. There are not many tint shops in my area. Does anyone know were to get them tinted and what the price should run? Both my parents have toyotas and love them. My mom is on her second Toyota My dad has a highlander with over 100,000 mi and he refuses to get rid of it. That is what made me want a Toyota. Even though its a Scion the paper work for my license plate says Toyota. Anyone know of any good TC and or Toyota and or scion shows/clubs/ect? Wasn’t TC originally an MG?

    Cool blog :)

First off.. Thank you Cool Modified Cars for posting the tC RS 5.0 article.. But, a couple corrections… The TRD Exhaust is an axel-back exhaust, not just cat-back… Also the 9 Spoke Tuning Fork TRD 18inch Rims are wrapped in “TOYO” Proxes 4 all season tires…

    To Tommy Tutone:
One thing you must realize about a stock tC is that the dealership expects you to add your own modifications after purchase.. Hence, no window tint.. Notice that the panaramic sunroof is tinted??? All of the windows have UV protectant without any tint at all… And, TC (traction control) is what makes it harder to peel your tires.. TC keeps your tires connected with the pavement, if you want TC, buy a Gen2 xB.. “tC” really means touring coupe.. although alot of tC owners insist it means Turbo Charged…

Cool blog! Cool cars! Your site rocks!
Cars and college students go hand in hand!
I had a ‘67 mustang back in the day. Used
a ton of gas! I’d go broke today if I still had it.
Broke college students like most of us just
have corollas. Congrats on a terrific looking blog!

  7. Toyota Corolla Parts Says:

looks really great. Toyota has been grabbing today’s happenings at the auto industry to really showcase its assets. the Prius has been modified again,as well, to compete with Honda’s Insight.

  8. Max from Toyota Dealership Says:

The TC is quite a sexy car. A friend of mine has one, and he’s modified multiple things on it to look even better. Good post, thanks for sharing.

  9. Toyota Tundra TRD Says:

I saw one of these in person the other day and it looked sweet. NOthing is better than black on black!

  10. james from Akon Skirting Says:

I was at the Chicago show and remember seeing this car! I’m not a huge Scion fan but this was a SWEET looking ride. The black rims with the red trim was a very nice touch…I would have no problem with this car sitting in my drive.

  11. Scott from Chicago Lawyer Says:

That car looks sweet. Does it come in other colors besides black?

  12. Rob from Used Toyota USA Says:

Great article on the modified Toyota. I like that this car has stiff suspension for better handling and traction

  13. Pitbull puppies for sale Says:

love the blog!!! love toyotas!!! my 4runner has 120k and still going strong. as long as it has oil and gas it will keep running until 200k+ scion a sister company has the same engineering and with that gets a great rep as a reliable car that will keep going until the rubber is off the tires

  14. Jake Auto Says:

That’s great to see a Scion with more than cosmetic gadget options. There’s no mention of engine tuning, perhaps it’s another smog conformance causality?

There’s a similar econo-box upgrade that also retains a stock engine in the U.S. version the BRABUS smart fortwo which ads a $3700 or $5700 premium for a body remake and a little lowering and exhaust change. Brabus, best known for making quick Mercedes into rockets, seems to be coasting leaving this car stock, I believe it’s the slowest one sold in the U.S.
There are fast Smart Cars out there, it’s small enough to do 5 sec 0-60 with a superbike engine. (EDITED VERSION)

  15. car service Says:

Love the red rims … hot! Pity the Scion in general looks a lot like a family car. The Mazda Speed3 looks heaps racier. No mention of it’s internal organs either … I take that to mean that the styling is mostly what it has going for it?

  16. Kaye Says:

For me, the Toyota Corolla has the best features, styling and bang for the back sedan.

  17. Matthew from Chicago Paper Shredding Says:

I really love the design of the Scion cars out on the road these days. They are very unique and always stand out on the road. I hate cars that look the same as what everyone else is driving.

  18. David from Website Design Chicago Says:

The modifications on that car are very sweet and really make the car seem very unique. I would love to get my hands on this bad boy.

  19. Retno from Student Car Insurance Says:

A limited production run of 2,000 cars will be made for the tC RS 5.0 and each will come with an MSRP of $2,300 on top of the basic price of the manual tC which is $17,000. A tC with an auto transmission will come with an MSRP of $17,800. The black spoiler is available at $285 and this does not include installation. The fee for delivery, processing and handling is $670 for all the models of Scion and excludes the MSRP.

  20. Jacob from Stair Lifts Says:

Wow, I was expecting a price tag that was a whole lot higher than $20K. I must say that is pretty impressive. I own an older Toyota and it has been the best car I have ever owned, gets great gas millage, and still has a decent amount of power…

  21. sarah from Florida dui attorney Says:

The Toyota RS 5 is just hot. That is all there is to be said about that, I love the black and red colors too…this car should be in those 2 fast 2 furious movies :)

  22. Mike from Pensacola Florida Cars Says:

My daughter drives a Toyota Scion and she loves it!
